The foundation of true education
In Spring of 2021, some of our fundraising efforts went to procure maps, reference books, charts, and various supplies which were in short supply at Saint Maria Gorretti.
Fr. Peter collecting school supplies to bring back to Uganda
Previously, they were hand-drawing maps on the back of discarded envelopes. Charts of the human body were drawn by the teacher and copied off the blackboard as students and staff had no other resources.
The level of need was so great that it was all the more pleasant when T.H.R.I.V.E. began collecting essentials to ship back with Fr. Peter when he returned for his ordination. We bought National Geographic maps, math packets with rulers, compasses and ways to measure angles. No more copying basic material off of the blackboard!
So many treasures!
Upon his arrival at SMG, Fr. Peter’s first priority was to introduce the teachers to all of the new academic materials he had brought with him—carefully selected resources generously donated to support the students’ learning.
However, word traveled quickly, and it wasn’t long before eager students poured out of their classrooms, unable to contain their excitement. Their enthusiasm was palpable, a testament to the impact these materials will have on their education. The moment was beautifully captured in the photo at left—a snapshot of pure joy and anticipation for the opportunities ahead!
AN INTERCONTINENTAL BOOK DRIVE
Many students at SMG wrote us lovely and heartfelt thank you cards in response to the successful delivery of academic materials.
Nabunje Fausta wrote us a thank you for the donated encyclopedia. The children really enjoy the wonderfully illustrated books. Despite these great strides, and all of the accompanying excitement, there is still an immense need for books, texts, and more academic materials.
